PM Hamdallah, government expected in Gaza at noon

RAMALLAH, October 2 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and his government are expected to reach the Gaza Strip coming from Ramallah at noon Monday to start the process of taking over duties in the besieged Gaza Strip, according to government sources.

Upon arrival at Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, Hamdallah will be officially received and is expected to hold a press conference.

The delegation is scheduled to visit a house in Shajaiyeh neighborhood of Gaza City destroyed during Israel’s 2014 war on the Gaza Strip before holding meetings with the various political factions in Gaza.

The cabinet is scheduled to hold its first meeting in Gaza on Tuesday morning after which it will assume its official duty as the government in charge of the  Gaza Strip.

The reconciliation was facilitated two weeks ago when Hamas, the de facto power in Gaza, has dissolved the administrative committee it had established to run Gaza affairs and agreed to turn over power to the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority.
