GDP up by one percent during second quarter, but per capita is down

 

RAMALLAH, September 28, 2017 (WAFA) - Preliminary estimates at constant prices showed an increase of 1.1% in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Palestine during the second quarter of this year compared to the same period of last year, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said on Thursday.

However, GDP per capita was down and decreased by almost two percent during the same period.

GDP increased by 1.3% in the West Bank and by 0.4% in Gaza Strip compared to the second quarter 2016.

When compared to first quarter of this year, it showed an increase of 2.7% in Palestine.

GDP for the second quarter 2017 at constant prices was $1,572 million for the West Bank and $481.3 million for Gaza Strip, said the PCBS.

GDP per capita for Palestine at constant prices was $440.2 during the second quarter 2017, a decrease of 1.7% compared to the second quarter 2016.

As for the West Bank, it was $576 at constant prices, a decrease by 1.2%, while for Gaza Strip it was $248.7, a decrease by 2.9%.
