RAMALLAH, May 16, 2017 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Tuesday issue on the rallies that took place in the West Bank on Monday in commemoration of the Palestinian Nakba of 1948.
They said clashes erupted between Palestinian protesters and Israeli occupation forces at several points of friction in Ramallah and Bethlehem areas. Soldiers attacked the protesters who were commemorating the Nakba injuring several.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted President Mahmoud Abbas, currently on an official visit to India, who said, “Our people will never close Nakba page before regaining their legitimate rights.”
Abbas, as quoted by al-Hayat al-Jadida, said he will spare no effort to ensure the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Al-Ayyam quoted President Abbas as saying that ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories will contribute to combating terrorism.
Al-Quds said US President Donald Trump is intending to hold a tripartite summit of the US, Palestine and Israel in the aftermath of his impending official visit to the Middle East.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said US officials who arrived in Israel in preparation for Trump’s visit told Israeli officials that al-Buraq (the Western Wall) and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in East Jerusalem are part of the occupied West Bank.
On a different subject, the dailies said 28-year-old Mohammad Majed Baker, a Palestinian fisherman from Gaza, died of his wounds on Monday after he was shot and seriously injured by the Israeli navy while he was fishing near Gaza coast.
The three papers said the Israeli daily Haaretz uncovered an Israeli plan to build 209 housing units in the illegal settlement of Kokhav Ya‘akov in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Ayyam said court proceedings have begun for the killer of Hamas military wing leader Mazen Fuqaha in Gaza.
