CEC completes accreditation process for municipal elections

RAMALLAH, May 9, 2017 (WAFA) - The Central Elections Committee Tuesday announced finalizing the observers and media representatives’ accreditation process, which began in March 2017 in preparation for the upcoming local elections.

CEC said in a press release it accredited 500 local and 130 international media representatives. A total of 1,400 local and international observers and guests were also accredited, representing 70 local and international observation organizations.

Accredited observers and journalists were provided with accreditation cards to allow them access to electoral centers and facilities to monitor the electoral process and obtain credible information.

CEC has encouraged participation of organizations working in the fields of gender and disability as observers and journalists.

The Palestinian elections‘ law grants observers and journalists the right to enter polling centers and to freely observe elections within a set of regulations, which guarantee no interference in the electoral process and are in compliance with international election standards.
