RAMALLAH, May 2, 2017 (WAFA) – The meeting planned for Wednesday in Washington between President Mahmoud Abbas and his US counterpart Donald Trump is an historic opportunity for Trump to hear the Palestinian narrative, Foreign Minister Riyad Malki said on Tuesday.
He considered the meeting, which comes at the invitation of Trump, as important at this time.
The two leaders are expected to meet for the first time since Trump took office in January and reviving the stalled Palestinian-Israeli peace process is expected to top their discussions.
Malki also said he will be travelling to Geneva to meet the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross to discuss the situation of 1500 Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli jails since April 17, which Malki described as “critical and dangerous.”
He said the international community should intervene to force Israel to negotiate with the prisoners and listen to their humanitarian and just demands.
