Prime Minister discusses East Jerusalem hospitals’ predicament with officials

RAMALLAH, April 27, 2017 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah Thursday met with officials from two of East Jerusalem’s hospitals and discussed with them their financial crisis, according to a statement by the prime minister’s office.

It said Hamdallah listened to representatives from Makassed and Augusta Victoria hospitals talk about their financial situation, stressing that Jerusalem with its hospitals and institutions remain a priority for his government.

The two hospitals have been complaining that the Palestinian government owes them millions of dollars for services provide to patients getting treatment following a transfer from the Ministry of Health.

They warned that the delay in making payments puts the hospital in dire crisis and prevents them from carrying out their duties as required.

Hamdallah praised the work and services provided by the two hospitals telling their officials that he will restructure the debt to the two hospitals according to a specific monthly payment plan.
