RAMALLAH, April 26, 2017 (WAFA) – The so-called Muna al-Khatib, whose name was linked to a recent article on social media known as “prostitute of Ramallah,” is not a real name, a statement by the prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.
After checking the facts following publishing that story that talked about corruption among Palestinian officials, and after checking with the Foreign Ministry and official Canadian parties, since Khatib has claimed she was a Canadian citizen, the prosecutor found out that there is no evidence that there is a person named Muna al-Khatib who resides in Canada.
Further investigation, said the statement, proved that Muna al-Khatib is a fictitious name associated with inflammatory and inciting articles and does not reveal anything about the real identity of Khatib.
It said the article, “prostitute in Ramallah,” was first published under the same name in 2012 on the Arab Times website.
“Investigation into this case will continue in cooperation with the relevant parties in order to find out who is behind the publication of such articles which harm the state of Palestine and its leaders,” said the statement, adding that the results will be announced as soon as the investigation is completed and the necessary measures are taken against anyone proven to have broken the law.
