HEBRON, August 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Hani Al-Hayek stressed the importance of the national efforts led by the ministry to monitor and protect archaeological and historical sites across the various Palestinian governorates, particularly those facing direct threats from the Israeli occupation and terrorist colonists.

Al-Hayek underscored the need to strengthen the presence of these sites on the Palestinian tourism map and protect them from the various risks they face.

He made the remarks during an inspection tour on Saturday of several archaeological and historical sites in the towns of Al-Karmel, Yatta, and Beit 'Amra in the Hebron Governorate.

The tour included the Qasr Al-Karmil archaeological site, Qisarya site, Khirbet Umm Al-Amad, and Khirbet Beit 'Amra, where he reviewed the condition and needs of the sites and discussed ways to preserve and develop them while making use of their archaeological and historical assets.

He said Palestine is home to numerous unique archaeological sites that constitute an integral part of its history and national identity, affirming that the ministry is working in partnership with local authorities and community representatives to protect and develop these sites within available resources, contributing to their rehabilitation as visitor-friendly destinations capable of attracting citizens, visitors, and tourists.

He added that transforming archaeological sites into vibrant tourist destinations not only boosts tourism and stimulates the local economy, but also helps protect and preserve these sites by strengthening the local community’s presence there and increasing national attention to their protection.
