Arab Parliament‘s Speaker expresses full support for Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike

CAIRO, April 24, 2017 (WAFA) – Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mishaal bin Fahm Al Salami, expressed on Monday full solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who launched an open-ended hunger strike eight days ago.

Al Salami‘s comments came during the meeting of the second legislative term of the Arab Parliament at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

Al-Salami stressed that the Israeli violations against the Palestinian prisoners must stop, dubbing the meeting as "the session in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners."

Some 1580 prisoners have so far joined the open-ended hunger strike which was launched on Monday April 17 to demand better prison conditions and treatment.

The Speaker condemned Israel‘s settlement expansion which challenges the resolutions of the United Nations and the international legitimacy.

He expressed support for the Arab endeavors, led by King Abdullah II of Jordan, to back the Palestinian cause on the international level.

Al Salami called for reviving the peace process in accordance with the resolutions of the international legitimacy as well as the Arab Peace Initiative to enable the Palestinian people to retrieve their full rights and build their own independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
