JERUSALEM, April 20, 2017 (WAFA) – Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers on Thursday in the vicinity of Al Quds University in the town of Abu Dis, southeast of Jerusalem, left one Palestinian injured and another detained, according to witnesses.
Israeli forces raided the town in the early hours and dozens of troops were deployed in the streets and neighborhoods, particularly in the vicinity of Al Quds University.
Troops reportedly stopped and inspected Palestinian students on their way to the university and schools, triggering clashes during which soldiers fired scores of concussion bombs, tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets at the Palestinians injuring one. Another one was detained.
The morning clashes came after forces had raided the town earlier in the day, storming and ransacking many homes and detaining a Palestinian.
Palestinian Red Crescent sources confirmed that one Palestinian was hit and injured with a rubber-coated steel bullet and at least 11 others suffocated from tear gas inhalation.
The raid and clashes followed a march the night before in solidarity with hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Abu Dis and the nearby Eizariya had set up two tents in solidarity with the hunger strikers.
