JERUSALEM, April 14, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli police Friday detained a mentally disordered Palestinian in his late fifties after he stabbed a British woman onboard of Jerusalem’s light rail, leading to her death.
According to Israeli media sources, the female arrived to the hospital with serious stabbing wounds, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.
The mentally disabled man reportedly stabbed the woman, in her early 20s, multiple times in her upper body with a kitchen knife. The man was restrained and pinned down to the ground by police and civilians at the scene before being taken into investigation.
According to the Israeli daily, Haartez, the incident took place near Tzahal Square, near the Old City walls. The man was identified as Gamil Tamimi, 57, a Palestinian resident of Ras al-Amud in East Jerusalem who was recently released from a psychiatric hospital, said Haartez.
Israeli forces shut down all entrances leading to Jerusalem’s old town in the aftermath of the fatal knife stabbing attack.
