RAMALLAH, December 14, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Arabic dailies gave prominence on their Wednesday front page for the incident at Qalandiya checkpoint when soldiers claimed a 31-year-old Palestinian woman attempted to attack them.
The soldiers, according to al-Quds, detained the woman, said to be a resident of Beit Hanina, after shooting at her car.
The papers printed a picture of soldiers and the car.
In other news, the papers said the Jerusalem District Electricity Company (JDEC), a privately owned Palestinian utilities company that provides power to Jerusalem, Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jericho, has warned that it may be forced to cut power off certain neighborhoods during programed time because the Israel Electricity Company, which provides power to the JDEC, refuses to link additional lines to its grid.
The papers said the government announced holidays on December 25, marking Christmas, and January 1, the New Year.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas met at his headquarters in Ramallah with an Israeli delegation of former cabinet ministers and lawmakers.
It also said the Arab quartet is supposed to meet on Monday to discuss Palestinian plan to submit an anti-settlements resolution to the United Nations Security Council.
The paper said the foreign minister of Sweden is expected in Palestine on Thursday but that Israel is boycotting her visit because of her criticism of Israeli practices against the Palestinian people under its occupation.
Al-Ayyam said France has postponed the international peace conference proposed for December 21 until next month. It said, quoting Palestinian and western diplomatic sources, the conference has been delayed until the first half of January to allow more participation in the conference.
Al-Quds said a new poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research found out that two-thirds of the respondents believe the two-state solution is finished and there was rise in the number of people who believe the Palestinians should abandon the Oslo process.
