RAMALLAH, October 11, 2016 (WAFA) – All municipal councils in the West Bank and Gaza who have resigned to run for elections originally planned for October 8 can continue in their work as usual, government spokesman Yousef al-Mahmoud said on Tuesday.

He told WAFA that the cabinet discussed the situation of the current local councils after it was decided to postpone local elections by four months and has decided that the councils who resigned should stay on until elections are held.

Several council members resigned as required by law in order to run for the new elections.

However, when elections were postponed, applications for all candidates were cancelled and the government decided to keep all municipalities in office as caretaker councils until new elections are held.
