RAMALLAH, March 22, 2016 (WAFA) – The three major Palestinian dailies on Tuesday focused on the closure of the West Bank by the Israeli authorities, under the pretext of the Jewish holidays.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that Israeli authorities took over about 1,200 dunums of Palestinian land near Nablus for settlement expansion purposes.
Al-Ayyam and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas laid the foundation stone of ‘Hugo Chavez’ Eye Hospital in the village of Turmus Ayya, to the northeast of Ramallah.
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted Abbas as saying: “We have patience, steadfastness, hope, work, and time will come for statehood”.
Al-Quds and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted the US vice-president Joe Biden as saying: “Israeli settlements raise questions about Israel’s commitment to peace.”
Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam reported that Israel delivered the bodies of two Palestinians, who were recently shot dead by Israeli troops, to their families.
Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam said US Republican front-runner Donald Trump has pledged to move the US embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. Al-Quds added that Trump said he believes Israel should pay for defense aid it receives from the US.
Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam said that about 19 Jews from the last remaining Jews in war-torn Yemen have been brought to Israel in a secret mission.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israel is constructing a cement wall on its border with Lebanon.
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida and Al-Ayyam reported that the Israeli “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon had accused Breaking the Silence foundation, which documents the practices of the Israeli soldiers against Palestinians, of “betrayal”.
