RAMALLAH, December 23, 2015
(WAFA) – The Greek Parliament’s recognition of the state of Palestine and
settlers’ gas attack against a Palestinian house in the Ramallah village of
Beitillu hit the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers.
Al-Quds reported that the Greek
Parliament unanimously voted in favor of recognizing the state of Palestine.
Al-Ayyam reported that Greece’s
parliament has unanimously voted in favor of a resolution calling on the
government to recognize the state of Palestine.
President Mahmoud Abbas was
reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam as taking the podium and stating that itt is
only the extremists who consider
themselves to be above the law.
He was also quoted in al-Hayat
al-Jadida as warning that, Should the last chance for peace fail, the result
would be catastrophic for the entire world.
Furthermore, the three dailies
highlighted a settlers’ gas attack against a Palestinian house in the Ramallah
village of Beitillu.
Al-Quds reported that settlers
attacked a Palestinian house in Beitillu village, west of Ramallah.
Referring to the settlers’
firebombing attack against the Dawabsheh family’s house in the Nablus village
of Duma in late July, al-Ayyam reported
that the settlers’ crime in Duma was almost repeated in Beitillu.
It explained that after
settlers hurled two bombs into a house, the Palestinian family survived the
crime.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported in
this regard that the family “miraculously” survived a settlers’ “terrorist
attack”.
Al-Quds also reported that settlers
destroyed 45 olive trees to the south of Nablus.
Furthermore, the three dailies
reported that thousands of Palestinians attended the funeral processions of
Maram Hasona and Tharwat al-Sha‘rawi in Nablus and Hebron, both shot dead by
Israeli forces, after their bodies were handed over to them by Israeli
authorities.
It is worth noting in this
regard that Hasona, 19, was shot dead near Ennab military checkpoint on the way
leading to Tulkarem in early December and that al-Sha‘rawi, 72, was also shot
dead on December 6 as she was driving her car towards a fuel station in Hebron.
Furthermore, al-Quds and
al-Ayyam reported that a Palestinian man was forcibly evicted from his
private-owned shop which was seized by settlers in the Old City of Jerusalem.
The three dailies reported the
racist comments made by Lehava group’s Benzi Gopstein describing Christians as
‘blood-sucking vampires’ and calling for them to be expelled from Israel.
Following Abbas’ remarks in
Athens about plans to issue passports labeled “State of Palestine”, al-Quds
reported on State Department Press Secretary John Kirby as stating that his
country will not issue visas for such passports.
Al-Ayyam reported that the US
State Department has rejected lawmakers’ calls to close PLO office.
Al-Quds also reported that
Italian parliamentarians are calling on their government to recognize the state
of Palestine.
