BRUSSELS, October 7, 2015 (WAFA) – in light of the recent escalation of violence in Jerusalem and West Bank, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D Group) Euro members of parliament affirmed the need for the Israelis to show seriousness in maintaining the status quo of al-Aqsa mosque and to end its occupation.
The group, in a statement issued by the office, expressed grave concern over the recent escalation of violence in Jerusalem and in the West Bank.
The Group condemned the deadly attacks and use of force, both against Israelis and Palestinians. “We express our condolences to the families of those who died and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.”
The group stressed that, 'These acts of violence not only bring additional suffering to the population, but they are also endangering the peace process.”
'We have to make sure that the escalation is not here to stay and we strongly condemn all incitements to further violence,” stated the statement.
The group stressed that, “The new attacks are only confirming that the recent policies from both sides have not helped to improve the security of Israelis and Palestinians citizens, but have instead allowed the situation to get worse.”
‘Considering the real risk of escalation’, The group called on both sides to cooperate.
“It is of utmost importance that all sides use all means at their disposal to condemn acts of violence, de-escalate the situation and start immediately taking serious steps for a political solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, through negotiations.'
