Consumer Price Index Up in June 2015, Says Statistics Bureau

RAMALLAH, July 14, 2015 (WAFA) - The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory increased in June 2015 by 0.05% compared to May 2015, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said Tuesday.

It said CPI increased by 0.90% in the West Bank, and by 0.47% in Jerusalem, while it decreased by 1.36% in the Gaza Strip.

June 2015’s CPI increased by 2.69% when compared to June 2014; it increased by 2.81% in the Gaza Strip, by 2.52 in the West Bank, and by 1.76% in Jerusalem.

It said that CPI during the first half of 2015 increased by 1.67% compared with the same period of the previous year; it increased by 2.62% in Gaza, by 0.74% in the West Bank, and by 0.18% in Jerusalem.

The change in CPI for June was attributed to changes in prices of fresh poultry, fresh meat, education, liquid fuel for cars, and medical care, which increased by 12.87%, 4.50%, 1.52%, 1.04%, and by 0.64%, respectively.

Changes were further attributed to decrease in prices of fresh vegetables by 13.77%, and fresh fruits by 8.71%.
