CAIRO, October 1, 2026 (WAFA) — Egypt condemned the incursion of hundreds of Israeli colonists into Al-Aqsa Mosque, including provocative acts and the performance of rituals in its courtyards, describing them as violations of the historical and legal status quo at the holy site.
In a statement issued by its Foreign Ministry today, Egypt warned of the dangers of continued and intensified incursions amid broader colonial activities and statements, saying such practices seek to alter the status quo and impose a new reality at the Al-Aqsa compound.
Egypt stressed the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo governing holy sites in Jerusalem and safeguard the religious status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It also emphasized that maintaining existing arrangements at the holy sites is essential to preventing further escalation, warning that repeated violations would further fuel tensions and threaten security and stability in the occupied Palestinian territory and the wider region.
