NEW YORK, September 26, 2026 (WAFA) — The League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a high-level meeting on Jerusalem today on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy called on the international community to move beyond condemnation and take concrete action to protect Jerusalem and its holy sites, and to compel Israel to halt its colonial and expansionist activities, forced displacement, and the plundering and confiscation of Palestinian land.
According to a statement issued by the Arab League, Fahmy reiterated his rejection of attempts to alter the geographic and demographic reality in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He condemned Israel's daily practices and policies aimed at changing the identity, character, and legal and historical status of Jerusalem.
The meeting comes amid continued Israeli measures in occupied East Jerusalem, including settlement expansion, land seizures, demolitions and restrictions affecting Palestinian citizens and the city's Islamic and Christian holy sites.
