RAMALLAH, September 25, 2026 (WAFA) – The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) held a meeting today to discuss political and field developments and review President Mahmoud Abbas’ address to the United Nations General Assembly.

The committee welcomed the President’s address and his reaffirmation of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and to establish their independent and sovereign state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

It commended the President’s condemnation of Israeli aggression and measures in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as well as attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites, and his affirmation of the unity of the Palestinian territory and rejection of displacement, annexation, and colonial settlement expansion.

The committee affirmed its support for the President’s call to immediately launch a comprehensive Palestinian national dialogue that would strengthen national unity, protect the Palestinian national project, and unify efforts to confront the challenges facing the Palestinian people.

The committee stressed its commitment to holding legislative elections, in accordance with the law, throughout the territory under the jurisdiction of the State of Palestine: East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. It affirmed that citizens’ participation in all these areas and the simultaneous conduct of voting there are essential conditions for the unity of the electoral process.

The committee called on the United Nations and the international community to work to halt Israeli violations and measures that obstruct the holding of elections, and to provide international monitoring covering all stages of the electoral process in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, to ensure its transparency and integrity and respect for its results.

The committee also called on the Central Elections Commission to take the necessary measures, within its powers and in accordance with the law, to ensure the conditions for holding elections simultaneously throughout the Palestinian territory and determine the practical requirements needed for this purpose.

The PLO Executive Committee decided to keep its meetings open and remain in permanent session to follow developments and take any necessary decisions.
