Egypt welcomes UK ban on trade linked to illegal Israeli colonies

CAIRO, September 8, 2026 (WAFA) — The Arab Republic of Egypt welcomed the British government's decision to ban trade in goods and certain services linked to illegal Israeli colonies in the occupied Palestinian territories, describing it as an important step that reflects a commitment to international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

In a statement issued today, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the measure would contribute to confronting illegal colonial activities and attempts to impose new realities on the ground in the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem.

Egypt stressed that continued colonial expansion undermines the territorial unity of the Palestinian territories and the prospects for establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state.

It renewed its position that achieving a just and lasting peace requires ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

Egypt also expressed support for a joint statement by the foreign ministers of 12 countries on protecting the two-state solution. The statement called for national and European measures to restrict trade in goods with illegal Israeli colonies and demanded an immediate halt to colonial expansion and accountability for perpetrators of violence by Israeli colonists.

Egypt welcomed growing international efforts to translate positions rejecting colonial activity into practical and tangible measures, calling on other members of the international community to take similar steps.
