AMMAN, September 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Tuesday welcomed a joint declaration by 12 countries pledging restrictions on goods from illegal Israeli settlements, according to the Jordan News Agency.

In a statement, the ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali praised the decision taken by Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the UK to uphold the two-state solution in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

On their significance, Majali stated that the trade bans are a "crucial step" to achieve international accountability.

He noted that the move aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion, both of which condemn colonial settlement expansion and affirm illegality of Israel's occupation and annexation efforts in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Calling on the "broader" international community to follow suit, Majali pushed for action to halt illegal colonial settlement activities and safeguard Palestinian rights.

He reiterated Jordan's "firm" position in supporting an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
