Arab Group at UN warns of Israeli escalation in West Bank and threats to Gaza roadmap

NEW YORK, August 27, 2026 (WAFA) — The Arab Group at the United Nations warned on Thursday of escalating Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank and efforts that could undermine the implementation of the roadmap for Gaza.

The warning was delivered by Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN, Alya Ahmed Saif Al Thani, during the UN Security Council’s monthly meeting on “The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.”

The Arab Group reaffirmed its rejection of measures aimed at entrenching the Israeli occupation or imposing Israeli sovereignty over any part of the occupied Palestinian territory. It strongly condemned Israel's illegal colonial expansion across the occupied territory, including the E1 colonial plan and related activities east of occupied Jerusalem.

The group said the E1 plan constitutes a violation of international law, Security Council Resolution 2334 and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, calling on the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities, uphold international law and ensure implementation of its relevant resolutions.

It stressed that the Palestinian issue remains central to achieving peace in the Middle East, emphasizing that a just, comprehensive and lasting peace cannot be achieved without ending the Israeli occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights, including self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Arab Group also condemned continuing Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territory, including attacks on civilians, colonial expansion, land seizures, home demolitions, forced displacement and colonist terrorism.

It rejected all measures intended to entrench the occupation or impose Israeli sovereignty over any part of the occupied Palestinian territory, stressing that such measures are “null and void,” have no legal effect and constitute grave violations of international law and Security Council resolutions.

Regarding Gaza, the group condemned Israel’s declared rejection of the roadmap aimed at completing implementation of US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the Israeli aggression on the Strip, which was endorsed by the Security Council. It also condemned Israel’s rejection of the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The Arab Group warned that these positions amount to a direct rejection of the plan, threaten its implementation and undermine collective efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.

It called for the full and immediate implementation of the plan to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, ensure security and stability, facilitate reconstruction and guarantee the immediate, safe, sustained and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance.

On the occupied West Bank, the group condemned the dangerous escalation, including the rising violence by Israeli colonists against Palestinian civilians, which it said has resulted in an unprecedented number of innocent victims this year, including children.

It called on the international community to compel Israel to end these illegal practices, hold those responsible accountable and ensure that they do not enjoy impunity.

The Arab Group further reaffirmed the geographical and political unity of the occupied Palestinian territory and the central role of the Palestinian Authority, while condemning measures that undermine it, including the withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues and actions undermining the Palestinian banking sector.
