CAIRO, August 13, 2026 (WAFA) — The General Secretariat of the Arab League on Thursday condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by hundreds of Israeli colonists under the protection of Israeli police, and their performance of rituals inside its courtyards.

In a statement issued by its Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, the secretariat described the actions as a blatant violation of the sanctity of the mosque, international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.

It warned of the dangers posed by the continuation of such practices and attempts to alter the existing historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and impose a temporal and spatial division.

The secretariat stressed that the entire 144-dunum area of Al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Endowment and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the competent authority responsible for administering the mosque in accordance with the existing historical and legal status quo.

The General Secretariat held Israel fully responsible for the violations and called for an end to the storming and provocations and for respect for international law. It also called on the international community, including the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and provide protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites.
