TUBAS, July 9, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces uprooted hundreds of trees and destroyed water pipelines on Thursday in the village of Atuf and the al-Baqi'a plain, east of the city of Tubas in the occupied West Bank, as part of ongoing land-clearing for the construction of a military road and a separation wall in the area.
Mutaz Bisharat, the official responsible for the Jordan Valley portfolio in Tubas Governorate, said Israeli forces began uprooting hundreds of trees and destroying water transmission lines east of Atuf village and the al-Baqi'a plain early on Thursday.
He said more than 300 olive and grape trees were uprooted, while water pipelines supplying approximately 45,000 dunums of agricultural land were cut.
Since the beginning of this year, Israeli forces have carried out large-scale land-clearing operations in Atuf and the al-Baqi'a plain as part of the so-called Crimson Thread project, which involves constructing a military road and a separation wall on Palestinian-owned land in Tubas Governorate and the northern Jordan Valley.
According to the initial plans, the wall will extend for 22 kilometers from the village of Ein Shibli to the Tayasir military checkpoint. The project is expected to isolate tens of thousands of dunums of land, cutting off much of Tubas Governorate's agricultural area and further tightening Israeli control over the Jordan Valley.
