RAMALLAH, June 11, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli colonists installed on Thursday surveillance cameras in the village of Umm Safa, west of Ramallah.
The head of the Umm Safa village council, Marwan Sabah, told WAFA that dozens of colonists began installing surveillance cameras on Jabal al-Ras in the village of Umm Safa, west of Ramallah.
He added that The mountain is one of the most important and vital agricultural areas in the village, and it contains large areas planted with olive trees, which poses a direct threat to the safety of the residents and their right to access their land.
Sabah pointed to plans to expand the Halamish settlement west of the village by seizing thousands of dunams of land belonging to residents of Umm Safa and Jibya, in order to connect it to the Ateret settlement east of the village, in an attempt to impose a new reality that would prevent the village from connecting with neighboring villages.
He also pointed out that the village, home to 720 people, has been completely closed off since October 2023, forcing residents to take circuitous routes through neighboring villages to enter and leave.
Safa continues to experience frequent attacks by settlers and Israeli forces, including land bulldozing, uprooting of trees, and restrictions on movement and access to farmland.
This attack comes amidst escalating colonist violence against villages and towns in the West Bank, which includes arson attacks on homes, vehicles, and other Palestinian property, assaults on residents, and the establishment of new settlement outposts, all under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces.
The village of Umm Safa is frequently targeted by colonists from settlements and outposts built on Palestinian land in the area, resulting in widespread property damage and restricting residents' access to their agricultural lands.
