Israeli forces launch widespread detention campaign across West Bank, detain 31 Palestinians

RAMALLAH, June 2, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli forces launched a large-scale detention campaign across several West Bank governorates early Tuesday, detaining 31 Palestinians, including four female students from Birzeit University and a number of former prisoners.

The detention were carried out during simultaneous military raids involving dozens of home searches and the ransacking of property.

In the Tulkarm governorate, Israeli forces detained 13 Palestinians, including several former prisoners, after raiding homes in the city, its suburbs, and the Al-Sha'arawiya area north of the governorate.

Local sources identified the detainees from Tulkarm and surrounding areas as Alaa Abdel Hadi; former prisoners Adnan Khader Al-Husari (60), Raja'i Ahmad Amouri (42), Abdel Latif Nafea Hamdan (45), Mohammed Saeed Shalabiya (45) from Ezbet Al-Jarad, Alaa Shaheen from Irtah, Mahmoud Saeedi (37) from Shuweika, and Osaid Aref (45) from Nur Shams refugee camp.

Israeli forces also detained Nihad Salim (34), Yousef Shalabi (36) from Attil, former prisoner Ahmad Mohammed Hamdan (35) from Saida, and former prisoners Yazan Ja'ar (29) and Obada Murad Shadeed (35) from Allar in the Al-Sha'arawiya area.

In the Nablus governorate, ten Palestinians were detained following raids on the village of Surra west of Nablus and the town of Beita to the south.

Security and local sources said those detained from Surra were Yamen Khaled Abu Hussein, Zubaid Saud Turabi, Mohammed Nabil Ghanem, Hilmi Ayman, Karim Muhannad Ghanem, Ayman Wasfi Turabi, Khalil Wasfi Turabi, Mohammed Akram Turabi, and Karim Munther Turabi. Taher Sama'na was detained from Beita.

Israeli forces also raided the towns of Aqraba and Beita, as well as the village of Beit Iba and the New Nablus area, carrying out extensive home searches.

In the Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorate, Israeli forces detained four Birzeit University students: Natalie Abu Diya, Joulan Abu Awwad, Sama Safi, and Leila Khalil. The first three were detained after raids on their homes in Birzeit, while Khalil was arrested from her family home in Beitunia, west of Ramallah.

Three additional young men were detained during raids on the villages of Deir Abu Mash'al and Abu Shkheidim, northwest of Ramallah.

The detained campaign was accompanied by raids on several towns and villages, including Al-Mazra'a Al-Gharbiya and Turmus Ayya, as well as searches and reported vandalism of homes.

Israeli forces also raided the village of Beit Ta'mir east of Bethlehem and detained Ali Mohammed Omar Soman (24) after searching his family home.

The campaign comes amid an escalation in Israeli raids and detained across the occupied West Bank alongside the ongoing Israeli offensive against Palestinians.

Prisoner rights organizations say Israeli authorities have significantly intensified detained operations since the start of the war, targeting university students, former prisoners, activists, and other sectors of Palestinian society. The arrests are often accompanied by extensive home raids, property damage, and assaults on residents.

West Bank communities continue to experience near-daily military incursions involving detentions, field interrogations, road closures, and restrictions on movement.
