TEL AVIV, June 1, 2026 (WAFA) – The Knesset Committee approved a bill on Monday morning to dissolve Israel’s 25th Knesset, paving the way for it to be presented later today to the Knesset plenum for a first-reading vote.
The bill was submitted by Coalition Chairman and Knesset member Ofir Katz, who said that, if the legislative process is completed, early elections are expected to be held between September 8 and October 20.
The proposal passed its preliminary reading about a week and a half ago, receiving broad support in the Knesset, with 110 lawmakers voting in favor and none opposing.
The move comes amid ongoing political and legislative debates over several controversial issues, particularly the military conscription law.
During a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee to discuss the bill, Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs said the government intends to advance the legislation through the committee before bringing it back to the Knesset plenum for its second and third readings.
He added that the government had asked the committee chairman and the government’s legal adviser to finalize the bill’s wording and complete the necessary procedures for its approval.
Political observers are closely watching the outcome of the expected vote, amid growing speculation that Israel could head to early elections in the coming months.
