JERUSALEM, May 30, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities on Saturday forced a Palestinian family to self-demolish seven inhabited homes in the village of Qalandia, north of occupied Jerusalem.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Israeli authorities compelled the Awadallah family to demolish seven occupied homes in the eastern area of the village under the pretext of unlicensed construction.
The family demolished six homes on Saturday, while a seventh home was self-demolished on Friday to avoid the high demolition costs and heavy fines imposed by Israeli authorities if municipal crews carried out the demolitions.
Israeli occupation authorities routinely deny Palestinians building permits in Jerusalem, while demolishing homes or forcing residents to tear them down themselves.
The policy violates international law and the right to adequate housing, and forms part of broader efforts aimed at the forced displacement of Palestinians from Jerusalem while expanding Israeli colonies in and around the city.
