Occupation gov’t approves plan to seize land in West Bank

TEL AVIV, May 20, 2026 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation government approved on Wednesday a large-scale plan to seize sites in several areas of the occupied West Bank under the pretext that they are "archaeological."

This measure allows the occupation to claim that any area it seeks to seize is archaeological, using the cover of "antiques and heritage" to advance the plan to annex the West Bank.

A statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, along with its ministries of Finance, Tourism, "Heritage," and Colonization, indicated that the plan is "unprecedented."

The statement noted that the occupation government allocated 250 million shekels to seize large tracts of land under the pretext of rescuing, preserving, and developing heritage and archaeological sites in the West Bank, the Jordan Valley, and the Hebron desert, as well as facilitating access to them.

It also pointed out that a multi-year plan will be advanced to establish and develop what is called public tourism infrastructure in the region, at a cost of tens of millions of shekels, turning them into "major tourist attractions in Israel."
