RAMALLAH, May 05, 2026 (WAFA) — Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa opened the weekly Cabinet session on Tuesday by briefing members on the latest contacts and efforts led by President Mahmoud Abbas, the Government, and the Palestinian diplomacy to ensure justice for the Palestinian people, halt Israeli occupation crimes and settler terrorism, and recover Palestinian funds illegally withheld by Israel. He also commended the resilience of various sectors of the Palestinian society under unprecedented conditions, particularly public employees.

The Cabinet also warned of the onset of the outbreak of serious diseases among displaced people in the Gaza Strip, driven by the severe deterioration of health and environmental conditions. This includes the catastrophic impact of water contamination and the destruction of sewage systems, which have contributed to a sharp increase in rodents and insects, including mosquitoes, due to the Israeli occupation’s continued blockade on the entry of sanitation and hygiene supplies, medical materials, and essential equipment needed to manage and treat accumulated waste and wastewater in displacement centers and makeshift shelters.

The Cabinet further called on the World Health Organization and all relevant international bodies to shoulder their responsibilities and take urgent action immediately to provide necessary medical and preventive supplies, in order to contain the spread of diseases, protect public health, and prevent further outbreaks.

In the same context, the Cabinet denounced the Israeli government’s decision to construct new colonial roads in the occupied West Bank, at the expense of Palestinian land, considering this a blatant violation of international legitimacy and a reinforcement of settlement expansion policies, in addition to being direct support for settler terrorism.

It noted that more than 1,600 attacks were documented in April alone, carried out by settlers and occupation forces, including physical assaults, destruction of agricultural land, setting crops on fire, blocking access to land, seizure of property, and demolition of homes and facilities—representing a systematic escalation aimed at undermining Palestinian life.

On a related note, the Cabinet called on the Palestinian people to strengthen social solidarity and collective responsibility to protect vulnerable groups and reject all forms of violence against women, children, and persons with disabilities, including recent tragic incidents such as the killing of a child by his father.

It also praised the important step led by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and partner institutions in launching the National Observatory on Violence against Women and Children, as an advanced measure toward building a comprehensive and thorough understanding of different forms of violence. Such violence, it underscored, is intertwined with socioeconomic factors and intersects with the violence of the occupation and settler terrorism, further requiring institutionalized mechanisms for accountability, pressure, and international advocacy.

The Cabinet also reviewed preparations by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs for the upcoming Hajj season, as pilgrims prepare to depart for Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the exemption of workers inside the Green Line who have lost their jobs from health insurance fees from October 2023 until the end of June 2026, transferring them to a subsidized “unemployed” insurance category, and called on workers to rectify their status.

It also approved recommendations of the technical committee for the management of state lands (Meeting No. 151), which included allocating land for the establishment of a health center, cultural and sports club, community center, service complex, cemetery, and electrical substations in Talouza and Asira al-Shamaliya.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved technical facilitation measures for the implementation of new employment programs in the Gaza Strip through the Ministry of Labour and the Palestinian Employment Fund.

On the occasion of the upcoming commemoration day of Nakba, the Cabinet called for broad participation in commemorative activities starting on 12 May, reaffirming the determination of the Palestinian people and leadership to continue advancing on all fronts toward the restoration of the Palestinian people’s usurped rights.
