RAMALLAH, February 28, 2026 (WAFA) — The head of the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, Minister Moayyad Shaaban, called on Palestinians to remain vigilant following a surge in Israeli colonist attacks amid regional tensions and international distraction over recent military developments and the war on Iran.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Shaaban warned that Israel, particularly its armed colonist militias, could exploit the current political and media climate to carry out systematic attacks on Palestinian communities, villages, and Bedouin settlements.
He highlighted that past experience shows periods of regional escalation are often used to advance aggressive field policies away from media scrutiny, including intensified assaults on population centers, property destruction, and attempts to impose new facts on the ground by seizing agricultural and grazing lands or pressuring residents to leave.
Shaaban noted a marked increase in movements of armed colonist groups near several villages and Bedouin areas, often under deliberate inaction by the Israeli army, which provides protection and cover for these attacks, reflecting an organized pattern of violence aimed at undermining Palestinian presence in Areas C.
He urged Palestinians, particularly in threatened villages and communities, to raise vigilance, strengthen local coordination, and immediately report suspicious movements or attacks through official channels, emphasizing careful documentation of incidents through photographs, dates, and witness statements to support legal accountability.
Shaaban also called on national institutions, popular protection committees, village councils, and civil society organizations to increase field presence, organize support campaigns, and assist vulnerable Bedouin communities at risk of attacks or displacement.
He held the Israeli government fully responsible for any escalation or assault against Palestinian civilians, emphasizing its legal obligation to protect the population under occupation rather than colluding with armed colonist militias.
