Israeli forces close central Hebron, demolish memorial, install mobile units over shops

HEBRON, October 29, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli forces on Thursday shut down  the Bab al-Zawiya area in central Hebron, demolished a memorial, and installed mobile units over several commercial shops.

WAFA correspondent reported that Israeli forces, accompanied by a military bulldozer, raided Bab al-Zawiya in the city’s commercial center, forcing shop owners to close their businesses. The forces fired tear gas canisters at residents and forcibly cleared them from the area.

Israeli forces also used bulldozers to demolish a memorial to Palestinian martyrs at the al-Sahib junction in southern Hebron.

The forces installed mobile units over shops belonging to Palestinian residents in the courtyard of the old Hebron Municipality building, after closing the iron gate erected there and preventing residents from accessing the area.

Israeli forces have continued their assault on the Hebron Governorate for the seventh consecutive day, maintaining a siege on the al-Jalda and Deir Bahha areas of the city and keeping them closed, while raiding Palestinian homes and vandalizing their contents.

More than 780 families have now been affected by the assault, while around 5,000 Palestinians face siege and forced displacement, either after being compelled to leave their homes or while remaining trapped inside them—particularly in al-Jalda and Deir Bahha, which have been under a tight siege and closure since last Friday.

Since the assault began, Israeli forces have detained more than 115 Palestinians, including a girl, and detained hundreds of others, subjecting them to abuse.

The assault and military siege imposed on parts of Hebron and its surrounding areas have also disrupted in-person learning at 66 schools, affecting 2,872 students. Of these, 2,198 are directly under siege, while 674 have been forcibly displaced and are unable to reach their classrooms.
