TEL AVIV, February 27, 2026 (WAFA) – Israel's Supreme Court on Friday issued a ruling temporarily freezing a government’s ban on 37 foreign humanitarian and aid organizations operating in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, pending a final decision.
The court’s ruling responds to a petition submitted by the humanitarian organizations, including Médecins Sans Frontières and Oxfam, demanding the lifting of the ban after the Israeli government revoked their work permits.
The court issued a temporary injunction allowing the organizations to continue their work. However, the decision only freezes the current situation, meaning the organizations are still prohibited from rotating staff or bringing new equipment and medicines into Gaza or the occupied West Bank.
Supreme Court Justice Daphne Barak-Erez emphasized that the ruling is temporary and is not intended to change the status quo or grant additional rights. The court also scheduled a hearing to review the petition as soon as possible.
On December 30, 2025, 37 international organizations were notified that their registration with Israeli authorities had expired and were given a 60-day deadline to renew it by submitting a list of their Palestinian staff.
Failure to comply would have forced these organizations to cease all activities in the occupied Palestinian Territory starting March 1.
