WARSAW, February 21, 2026 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian held a series of political, diplomatic, and academic meetings with Polish officials during an official visit to Poland at the invitation of her Polish counterpart.
She met with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski accompanied by Palestinian Ambassador to Poland Mahmoud Khalifa and embassy staff. The discussions covered political and humanitarian developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, ways to strengthen bilateral relations, implement signed memoranda of understanding, and hold new rounds of political consultations and joint ministerial committee meetings.
Sikorski reiterated Poland’s support for a two-state solution and the need to respect international law in protecting Palestinian rights.
Aghabekian expressed appreciation for Poland’s support of Palestine in international forums and its continued development and humanitarian aid, emphasizing the importance of enhancing bilateral partnerships across various sectors.
On the academic front, she met with the Rector of University of Warsaw, Professor Alojzy Nowak, who praised academic cooperation with Palestine, including hosting Palestinian students last year and continuing programs this year. She emphasized the role of education and academic exchange in building bridges between peoples and fostering hope for future generations, delivering a lecture to students at the faculties of International Relations and Oriental Studies, followed by an open discussion.
Aghabekian called on the international community to take effective measures to hold Israel accountable for violations in the Palestinian territories, stressed incorporating UN Security Council Resolution 2803 in any peace plan, and highlighted the need to begin Gaza reconstruction while ensuring Palestinian participation.
She outlined Palestine’s preparations for general elections across all occupied territories since June 4, 1967, once conditions are conducive following a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and a halt to settler attacks in the West Bank.
The minister also discussed tourism opportunities with media representatives, particularly religious tourism, to support resilience among Palestinian tourism sector workers, and met Polish humanitarian and medical organizations to review programs assisting marginalized and remote communities, especially in Gaza.
Aghabekian concluded her visit by meeting the Palestinian community in Poland, stressing their role in strengthening bilateral ties and conveying the Palestinian cause to Polish society.
