GAZA, January 26, 2026 (WAFA) – A Palestinian man was wounded by Israeli fire east of Gaza City on Monday, as the Israeli army continued its extensive bulldozing operations in the Al-Sanafour area and around the Al-Batsh cemetery since dawn on Sunday.
These operations included the desecration of graves under the pretext of searching for the body of the last remaining Israeli prisoner of war in the Gaza Strip.
Local sources reported that the area and its surroundings were subjected to heavy artillery shelling and intense gunfire from military vehicles, as well as sniper fire and quadcopter drones. This has resulted in fatalities and dozens of injuries so far.
The sources added that the Israeli army announced a large-scale search operation inside the Gaza Strip for the missing soldier, emphasizing that the area remains extremely dangerous and that reports of a withdrawal or retreat of Israeli forces, as was rumored on Sunday, are false.
Sources indicated that gunfire reached the Zarqa area in the western Tuffah neighborhood, resulting in one fatality and fires breaking out in residents' tents. Residents were repeatedly warned to stay away from the area and its surroundings and not to underestimate the seriousness of the situation, as the dangers persist.
Additionally, the death toll from the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip has risen to 71,660 and 171,419 others were wounded since the start of the offensive on October 7, 2023.
Medical sources reported on Monday that three Palestinians were killed in the past 24 hours, including one whose body was recovered. Twenty others were wounded by Israeli fire and shelling. Several victims remain trapped under rubble and in the streets, as rescue and ambulance crews have been unable to reach them.
The same sources indicated that the total number of slain Palestinians since the ceasefire on October 11 has risen to 486, and the total number of injuries to 1,341, while 714 bodies have been recovered.
