RAMALLAH, January 19, 2026 (WAFA) – Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh met on Monday with British Consul General Helen Winterton and French Consul General Nicolas Kassianides to discuss the latest political and humanitarian developments following the announcement of the Peace Council and its executive committee, along with the technocratic committee, established to implement US President Donald Trump’s plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
During the meeting, al-Sheikh stressed the importance of advancing political efforts aimed at achieving stability and ensuring the Palestinian Authority’s return to its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip.
The Vice President emphasized the importance of the political and legal link between the West Bank and Gaza Strip within the framework of territorial and institutional unity. He also stressed the need to prevent a recurrence of conflict, expedite the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, and support reconstruction efforts.
Al-Sheikh emphasized the necessity of halting settler attacks in the West Bank, asserting that the continuation of these violations undermines the prospects for stability and contravenes international law and legitimacy.
