RAMALLAH, 4-1-2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate warned of the imminent risk to the life of journalist Ali Samoudi, 59, following an Israeli occupation court’s decision to extend his administrative detention for a third consecutive time, for an additional four months, without filing charges or presenting him for a fair trial, in a flagrant violation of international law and press freedom.
The Syndicate held the occupation authorities fully responsible for the severe deterioration in Samoudi’s health, noting that the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) reported he has lost around 40 kilograms and is suffering from multiple illnesses, including scabies, diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, continuous gum bleeding, a sudden increase in heart rate, repeated fainting spells, chronic headaches, a urinary tract infection, and problems in his left ear, amid deliberate medical neglect.
The Syndicate condemned the assaults, repression, and humiliating treatment Samoudi has been subjected to at Israel’s Megiddo detention facility, as well as his confinement under harsh humanitarian conditions, considering this a form of torture and degrading treatment prohibited under international conventions and agreements.
It also issued an urgent appeal to the international community, human rights institutions, journalists’ unions, and international media outlets to take immediate action and exert serious pressure on the Israeli occupation government to end the policy of administrative detention against journalists, secure the immediate release of Ali Samoudi, and hold those responsible accountable for ongoing violations against Palestinian journalism.
The Syndicate stressed that the continued use of administrative detention against journalists constitutes a systematic policy aimed at silencing the Palestinian voice and suppressing the truth, calling for Samoudi’s immediate and unconditional release and for ensuring he receives urgent medical care.
