RIYADH, December 31, 2025 (WAFA) — Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh met on Wednesday with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to discuss the latest political developments regarding the Palestinian cause, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern, and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries and their peoples.
Al-Sheikh conveyed Palestine's appreciation for Saudi Arabia's firm support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and sent President Mahmoud Abbas' greetings to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, praising the Kingdom's efforts to consolidate the ceasefire, alleviate Palestinian suffering, and support Palestinian rights to freedom and independence.
Al-Sheikh emphasized the immediate need to implement the second phase of the ceasefire that would lead to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, begin reconstruction efforts, and allow the State of Palestine to fully assume its responsibilities in the Strip, applying the principle of one state, one law, and legitimate Palestinian arms.
He stressed the importance of ending the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, affirming that the Strip is an integral part of the State of Palestine.
He also called for pressure on Israeli authorities to halt ongoing violations in the West Bank, including colonial expansion, annexation attempts, raids on cities, towns, and refugee camps, killings, detentions, and the destruction of property and infrastructure, as well as the continued seizure of Palestinian tax revenues, which undermines the State of Palestine's ability to fulfill its obligations toward its people.
Both sides stressed the importance of creating conditions for a credible and serious political process based on international law and United Nations resolutions, aimed at ending Israeli occupation and achieving the independence of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. They underscored the need for coordination within the Arab and Islamic framework, with the European Union, and concerned countries.
Al-Sheikh praised Saudi Arabia’s leading role in this regard, commending the position expressed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. He affirmed that comprehensive security, stability, and peace in the region require the existence and international recognition of the Palestinian state.
