Islamic Supreme Fatwa Council in Palestine rejects Israeli bill targeting mosque calls to prayer

JERUSALEM, December 28, 2025 (WAFA) – The Islamic Supreme Fatwa Council in Palestine condemned an Israeli bill that seeks to restrict the call to prayer (adhan) in mosques. The proposed law would require official permits for operating loudspeakers in any mosque, based on criteria such as sound level and mosque location.

In a statement on Sunday, the council said the measures target mosques in general, and particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque, calling the bill a new crime within Israel’s policy of oppression, interference in religious affairs, and an attack on Islamic rituals across Palestine.

The council stressed that the call of adhan from mosque minarets cannot be silenced, regardless of fines or penalties, as it is an integral part of Islamic faith and inherited religious practice. It criticized the bill as a misguided attempt to erase Islamic history and impose a false Judaization of the area, warning that it could ignite a broader religious war.

The council called on the international community, including states, governments, and specialized organizations, to intervene to stop these attacks on mosques and prevent Israeli interference in Muslim worship, describing the bill as racist and contrary to laws, international norms, and divine legislation.
