AMMAN, December 23, 2025 (WAFA) - The Vice President of the State of Palestine, Hussein Al Sheikh, discussed on Tuesday with Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, the efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and halt Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank.
During the meeting, held in Amman, Al Sheikh and Safadi affirmed the priority of a ceasefire in Gaza, full adherence to all provisions of the ceasefire agreement, and making progress toward the second phase of the agreement in line with U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan.
They stressed the importance of linking efforts to achieve stability with a clear political horizon for realizing a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
They emphasized that the future of the Gaza Strip must be based on respecting not only its unity, but also the territorial unity of the Strip and the West Bank under the Palestinian National Authority as per the UNSC Resolution 2803.
They affirmed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied territory on which an independent, sovereign Palestinian state must be established based on the two-state solution, in accordance with the UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
They also stressed the need to step up efforts to guarantee the sufficient and immediate entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip, and the necessity for Israel to fulfill its obligations under the ceasefire agreement and international law, and to lift all restrictions it imposes on the entry of aid.
They discussed the grave deterioration in the occupied West Bank, stressing the need for concerted regional and international efforts to halt Israel’s illegal measures that push the region into conflagration and undermine the prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.
They also emphasized the need for Israel to respect the longstanding legal status quo at the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and to lift all restrictions on freedom of worship.
They further stressed the need for Israel to lift all restrictions imposed on Christians and their right to practice their faith, especially during religious feasts and holidays.
They stressed the importance of maintaining continued consultation and coordination with Arab partners to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, whose sole path lies in ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and as per the UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
