Occupation escalates aggression on Gaza: Airstrikes hit Rafah, shelling targets central Gaza, and a worsening health crisis strains hospitals

GAZA, December 15, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation aircraft on Monday carried out a wave of airstrikes targeting the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, alongside intense gunfire from military vehicles positioned north of the city, heightening tensions across the area.

In a related development, occupation artillery shelled areas east of al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, while military vehicles opened heavy fire toward the Telecommunications Building near Abu Hamid Roundabout in the center of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, according to local sources.

Meanwhile, civil defense crews in Gaza City managed to recover the bodies of 14 people from under the rubble of the Salem family home, which was destroyed by the occupation during its aggression on the city.

Rescue teams said the search and recovery operations were conducted under extremely harsh conditions and with limited resources, as part of sustained humanitarian efforts to retrieve bodies still trapped under debris, ahead of burial in a manner that upholds their dignity.

infectious diseases, particularly respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, are spreading widely among children, further compounding pressure on health facilities across the Gaza Strip. Relevant authorities said the number of patients now exceeds hospital bed capacity by nearly four times the available beds.

In the same context, the spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross stressed that residents of the Gaza Strip are in urgent need of immediate intervention, especially as rainfall continues, to confront the worsening humanitarian conditions and curb the impact of the crisis on displaced families.

Although a ceasefire in Gaza went into effect on October 11, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has continued to rise, reaching 70,665, mostly women and children, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023. At least 171,145 others have also been injured.

This toll remains incomplete, as many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and rescue crews.

According to medical sources, two people were killed and six others were injured over the past 24 hours.

Since the ceasefire went into effect on October 11, the number of those killed and injured has reached 393 and 1068, respectively. At least 632 bodies have also been recovered.
