OSLO, January 15, 2025 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa emphasized that Gaza "needs a responsible government capable of healing the wounds of our people and reunifying it under one state, one government, one law, and one system."
He stated that the international community must adopt concrete and irreversible actions against Israel to implement the two-state solution, starting with a comprehensive ceasefire, lifting the blockade on Gaza, and implementing UN resolutions such as Resolution 2334 (2016) and Resolution 2735 (2024).
In his speech during the third meeting of the international coalition to support the two-state solution in Oslo, which gathered over 80 countries and international organizations, Mustafa stressed that "any entity other than the legitimate Palestinian leadership and the Government of the State of Palestine ruling Gaza is unacceptable." He firmly rejected any attempts to create transitional entities or further divide Gaza from the West Bank.
Mustafa, who participated in discussions about bolstering humanitarian aid to Palestinians, especially in Gaza’s dire conditions, also called for efforts to revive peace negotiations and strengthen support for UNRWA, the organization pivotal in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees.
He added, “Gaza, after all this suffering, requires a government that can heal the wounds of the Palestinian people. We must quickly move towards relief, early recovery, reconstruction, and peace, as leaving Gaza in a vacuum is not an option.”
The Prime Minister reiterated the State of Palestine’s readiness to assume its responsibilities in Gaza, just as it had done in the past. "We are prepared to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2735, reunite the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and Gaza under one government," he said.
Mustafa also highlighted the crucial role of international recognition of the State of Palestine in achieving a just and lasting peace. "Your recognition of the State of Palestine is a step towards achieving peace and demonstrates the importance of the two-state solution," he added, stressing the need for a resolution based on internationally recognized borders.
Reflecting on the harsh reality of occupation, Mustafa underscored that "we are in total darkness. The Palestinian reality under occupation is harsh, and the international community has failed to secure basic rights." He noted the ongoing collective punishment of Gaza, which has been under Israeli genocide for over a year and a half.
The Prime Minister called for decisive international action and solidarity to advance the two-state solution, combat Israeli violations, and ensure accountability.
He emphasized the importance of the international coalition for the two-state solution, the High Contracting Parties Conference, and the planned June peace conference as interconnected pillars that can help dismantle obstacles to peace and pave the way for a genuine political process.
