Israeli restrictions cause major losses for traders and truck owners in West Bank

RAMALLAH, January 12, 2025 (WAFA) – The commercial transport sector in the West Bank is facing severe losses due to continued Israeli restrictions on the movement of goods between Palestine, Jordan, and beyond.

Adel Amro, head of the Commercial Transport Sector in the West Bank, confirmed that the Israeli occupation authorities are still obstructing the entry of goods from Jordan to Palestine and the export of goods from Palestine to Jordan and other countries.

Speaking to the Voice of Palestine radio, Amro stated that the number of trucks allowed to pass through the Karama border crossing with Jordan does not exceed 15 trucks per day, with only two trucks permitted for export and 10 to 15 for imports. This leaves approximately 480 trucks out of 500 idle.

Amro also pointed out that some trucks are forced to wait on the Jordanian side for up to a month, with truck owners incurring daily costs ranging between 50 and 100 Jordanian dinars. This situation is causing substantial financial losses for traders and truck owners.

Furthermore, Amro pointed out that the Israeli authorities are imposing restrictions on the types of goods allowed to enter, adding further challenges to the already strained economic situation.

Despite ongoing efforts and coordination with relevant authorities to increase the number of trucks allowed and expand the types of goods imported, the crisis persists, continuing to burden the commercial transport sector.
