TUBAS, January 1, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces Wednesday morning tightened restrictions on Tayasir checkpoint, east of the occupied West Bank city of Tubas, according to local sources.
They said that the occupation forces tightened access restrictions at the checkpoint, stopping Palestinian-registered vehicles, inspecting passengers’ ID cards and preventing direct free passage of Palestinians between the West Bank and the Jordan Valley in both directions.
Israeli occupation has tightened military restrictions at the intermittently staffed checkpoint, a main access between Tubas and the Jordan Valley, for over a year, frequently closing it to Palestinians, including to vegetable and fruit merchants.
Israel severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of over 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.
Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 57-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
