Israeli artillery shelling targets Gaza’s Al-Ahli Arab Hospital

GAZA, December 29, 2024 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation military has launched an artilely strike on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital (also known as the Baptist Hospital) in Gaza City, continuing its assault on vital medical infrastructure in the region.

The attack on Sunday morning targeted the top floor of the hospital, which had remained operational as the last remaining healthcare facility in northern Gaza following the destruction of Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Local sources reported that the Israeli artillery directly hit the top floor of the hospital, causing further damage to the building. This attack is part of a broader pattern of Israeli forces' bombardment of medical facilities in Gaza, especially in the northern areas, where healthcare infrastructure has been decimated.

Just days earlier, on Friday, Israeli occupation forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital in the neighboring city of Beit Lahiya, setting it on fire and sending it out of service. Over 350 people inside, including hospital staff, patients, and relatives, were forcibly removed from the hospital by Israeli forces and taken to an unknown location. This included the hospital’s director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, 180 medical personnel, and 75 patients and their companions.

Since the beginning of the Israeli assault on the northern Gaza Strip in early October, combined with an ongoing siege, the region’s healthcare system has been severely impacted. The bombardments, which have targeted hospitals and emergency medical services, have left the health sector nearly non-functional, further exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation.
