Reports of Israeli abuse of Palestinian prisoners concerning, White House says

WASHINGTON, Thursday, August 8, 2024 (WAFA) – White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that reports of Israeli army rape, torture and abuse of Palestinian detainees are deeply concerning.

In a press statement, Pierre called on Israel to treat all detainees in a humane and dignified manner, in accordance with international law, respect human rights, and act responsibly towards any violations and abuses.

In turn, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Israel must conduct a comprehensive investigation into the sexual assault of a Palestinian detainee.

In response to the Anadolu Agency correspondent about the incident, Miller stressed that there must be no tolerance for incidents of sexual assault on any detainee.

"These attacks are contrary to the most basic human rights," he continued, stressing that Israel must investigate the reports of sexual assault on detainees strictly and hold the perpetrators accountable.

Miller stated that the US State Department will follow up on the results of the investigation launched by the Israeli army.

Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israeli, Palestinian and international human rights organizations have spoken about the deterioration of conditions in the occupation prisons, especially Sde Teiman prison.
