PLO's Hussein al-Sheikh: UNGA’s vote is a victory for long-awaited Palestinian rights

RAMLLAH, Saturday May 11, 2024 (WAFA) – Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, today welcomed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution backing Palestine’s bid to become a full UN member.

The Assembly adopted the resolution with 143 votes in favor and nine against – including the US and Israel – while 25 countries abstained.

Al-Sheikh considered this move as “a victory of the international will for the long-awaited Palestinian rights.”

He voiced his appreciation of the member states that have voted in favor of the resolution that is consistent with the international consensus, considering this move as a historical right for the Palestinian people to establish their independent State on its national soil, with Jerusalem as its capital.
