RAMALLAH, Monday, May 8, 2023 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today highlighted the Israeli army demolition of Jibb al-Deeb school near Bethlehem that left 60 students from grade one to four without a place to study.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily quoted the students saying they will not shut their books just because the school was demolished. It also said the European Union, which funded the school, denounced the demolition.
The dailies also highlighted the funeral of Sharif Weiridat, 22, from al-Dahriyeh, near Hebron, after Israel returned his body to his family for burial after holding it for three months, and the funeral of Diyar Omari, 20, from the Arab town of Sandala in Israel who was shot and killed by an Israeli following a brawl.
Al-Quds daily Israel has published tenders for the construction of 1248 housing units in illegal West Bank settlements.
It also said Israel is pressing to separate occupied Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley and build roads “clean” of Palestinians, as the extremist Israeli cabinet minister Itamar Ben Gvir continues to call for the murder of Palestinians.
It said the Israeli extremists insist on having their flags march at Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem even at the price of escalation.
Al-Ayyam said Ben Gvir conditions the government launching a military operation in the West Bank to end his differences with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It said the Israeli High Court rejected a petition by extremist settler groups to evacuate Khan al-Ahmar, east of Jerusalem, and quoted a lawyer saying this does not mean the end of this case.
It said that Israel turned over Jordanian member of parliament Imad Udwan to the Jordanian authorities to be tried in Jordan after arresting him on suspicion of smuggling weapons and gold in his car to the West Bank.
The papers said Syria is back in the Arab League 10 years after suspending its membership.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Arab League emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian issue calling on Israel to release all Palestinian prisoners.
It said a rally was held in Ramallah calling for the release of ill Palestinian prisoner in Israel, Walid Daqq, and other prisoners.
