Newspapers Review: President Abbas in Saudi Arabia, settlers’ attacks highlight of dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, April 17, 2023 (WAFA) – The arrival today of President Mahmoud Abbas in Saudi Arabia and attacks by settlers in the occupied territories were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Quds daily made the arrival of President Abbas in Saudi Arabia its main front-page story and said along this that the visit coincides with a visit by a Hamas delegation to the kingdom headed by Ismail Haniyeh. It said the President is going to meet the Saudi monarch and the crown prince.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies said settlers carried out new attacks against Palestinians in the occupied territories while the army detained several Palestinians in raids at their homes. Al-Quds also highlighted this story.

Marking Palestinian Prisoners’ Day today was also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies with al-Hayat al-Jadida giving it prominence, highlighting the situation of the two prisoners, Walid Daqqa, who is seriously ill, and Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for more than 70 days in protest against his detention without charge.

Al-Ayyam said two US officials visited the Islamic Waqf department in Jerusalem and met its director.

Al-Quds said the people in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights oppose an Israeli plan against their lands.

The dailies also reported on the situation in Sudan and on the war in Ukraine.
